A jealous husband and his friends plot the kidnapping of his wife's lover with the intention of restoring his wounded ego.
Tough sell this film is, yet a most deserving one! Looking at the title, the poster or even the trailer, one might expect something in the range of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels to Snatch; a story depicting a bunch of crooks and thieves going about their business in a grim London of a Hollywood fantasy. A glimpse at the talented cast, hearing the first words pronounced with the familiar intensity and the strange kind of wit and anecdotes with which the crook reveals his philosophy, and suddenly you think you might as well start making films yourself. But this feeling of déjà vu doesn't last an instant.
Malcom Venville takes a very bold stand in deciding to make this picture. It is not action flick, nor a comedy, nor even mystery or any other normal genre for that matter. Rather than having no genre, it would be better to say it creates its own.
Similarly to Plato's Banquet where people gather to philosophise about love in the most bacchanalian of fashions, but in the less cheerful context of separation, the characters gather to discuss the meaning of marriage as one of them is confronted with the end of his. And this is where Venville prove his genius. He brilliantly portrays the contemporary clash of ideas and generations caused by the dissolution of the institution that marriage once was.
Each character is played expertly by these mature actors. I must say that, John Hurt's performance as the Old Man Peanut was most enjoyable, however much of a cliché his character was.
