Beckham returns to AC Milan

ROME: David Beckham enjoyed a winning return to the AC Milan side as they outclassed Genoa 5-2 at the San Siro.

Watched by England coach Fabio Capello, Beckham impressed on the right side of a three-man attack in his first game since beginning a second loan spell.

Injuries to Alexandre Pato and Clarence Seedorf meant 34-year-old Beckham played further forward than usual.

After Ronaldinho had an early penalty saved, Genoa went ahead on 25 minutes but Milan were 2-1 up at half-time.

Leonardo's side ran riot in the second half to keep the gap between them and leaders Inter Milan at eight points.

It could hardly have gone better for Beckham, who is spending a second spell at Milan from LA Galaxy in a bid to prove to Capello that he is worth a place in England's squad for the World Cup.

Federer and Nadal ease into Doha quarters

DOHA: Roger Federer, aiming to regain a title he last won four years ago, reached the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open with a performance which for the second successive day suggested he is starting the new season well rested and in fine shape.

The Grand Slam record-breaker won 6-2, 6-4 against Evgeny Korolev, a young and rising Russian on the verge of the world's top 50 who hit ambitiously but looked capable of achieving more than he actually did.

Federer contained him well, moved excellently, prevented his inexperienced opponent from feeling comfortable, and from time to time had moments of sublime attacking, which helped maintain an intimidating aura.

"This was a more dangerous match than my first one because he is a big ball striker and plays aggressive on forehand and backhand," Federer said.

"Conditions were difficult today, it was very slow out there and I had to be patient and grind it out, so I was happy with the way I adapted and with the way the match went."

Federer was helped by several moments when Korolev beat himself - perhaps overly aware of Federer's reputation - notably after he broke the great man's serve to get back to 2-3, only to play a poor service game himself.

Then unaccountably Korolev failed to appeal against a line call on the opening point of the final game, when he was serving to save the match.

Hawkeye was showing as on the line a drive which had been called out, but the Russian missed his chance to get the decision overturned.

By contrast at 15-30 Federer appealed against another 'out' call, on his own drive this time, and got it reversed, taking the score to 15-40 and giving him two match points.

Korolev fought back bravely and saved both of them but still lost that game and the match. Had he appealed, as Federer did, he should have reached 5-5 with all to play for.

Federer is seeded to play a final on Saturday against his greatest rival, Rafael Nadal, who looked particularly pumped up after dismissing Potito Starace, a former top 30 player from Italy, by 6-2, 6-2.

Wicketkeeper Sarfraz will be sent to Australia

Wicketkeeper Sarfraz will be sent to Australia Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has called up wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed as a cover for struggling wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal for the third Test match against Australia in Hobart, starting from January 14.

Kamran dropped three regulation edges from Australian middle-order batsman Michael Hussey off Kaneria's bowling, on 27, 45 and 52. Hussey went to score an undefeated 134 runs, and played a crucial role in Pakistan’s shocking 36-run defeat.

Sarfraz was earlier selected ahead of Kamran for the 2008 Asia Cup, during which he impressed with his keeping skills, but did not have a chance to show his batting skills.

Pakistan’s teenage pacer Mohammad Aamir is likely to be fit for the third and final Test.

Aamir suffered a minor groin injury during the opening Test in Melbourne where he took a sensational five-wicket haul in the second innings to bring Pakistan back in the match.

Pakistan team manager Abdul Raqeeb while talking to Geo News said Aamir has received some treatment and is responding well.

“He had some icing and will be resting for a few days. He was rested on the advice of doctors because he was really stiff but hopefully he will be fully fit for Hobart.”

According to team sources, all rounder Shoaib Malik will replace Misbahul Haq in the third test.

Snowfall, cold shivers Europe

Snowfall, cold shivers Europe LONDON: Europe shivered in bitterly cold temperatures again Thursday, as Britain braced for more snow that has already caused chaos amid its most brutal winter in decades.

Millions of Britons endured another day of icy conditions and disrupted transport links that have already kept many away from work and knocked Britain's recession-hit economy.

Temperatures overnight dropped to minus 18 degrees Celsius in Woodford outside Manchester, northwest England, and in Benson, southern England. Glasgow saw minus nine degrees Celsius, while London fell to minus three. No major British airports reported closures Thursday, with runways open following a day of disruption Wednesday.

Britain's Met Office weather service said the cold spell was the worst since 1981 and warned of more to come. Much of the rest of Europe was also hit by the winter blast, with freezing temperatures causing treacherous conditions and travel mayhem across the continent.

In France, snow caused traffic problems in Paris, Grenoble Bordeaux and the north. Thirty-one departments, largely in the south, were put on alert for further snowfall and icy conditions. In Austria authorities are on standby amid forecasts of some 50 centimetres of snow at the weekend in low-lying parts of the country, normally spared much of the regular snowfalls in its Alpine areas.

On Thursday, Norway was among the coldest countries, with temperatures ranging from minus 15 degrees Celsius (about minus 42 Fahrenheit) to minus 40 degrees Celsuis. No buses ran in Olso on Thursday as temperatures plunged so low that the petrol froze in the tanks. Ferry services in the capital also came to a standstill. The cold snap also hit train services in the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, torrential rain hit parts of Italy and officials feared the swollen River Tiber could threaten Rome in coming days. In Britain, hundreds of schools were closed Thursday, giving children another chance to spend the day playing in the snow.

Fallen trees bringing down lines left about 4,000 homes in southern England without electricity.

Meanwhile police in Manchester, northwest England, caught a fugitive prisoner by following his footprints in the freshly-fallen snow.

LHC issues notices against rise in power, gas and POL tariffs

LHC issues notices against rise in power, gas and POL tariffs LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday has issued notices to provincial governments, federal government, Nepra and OGRA against the rise in power, gas and petroleum tariffs.

Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab leader Dr. Waseem Akhtar filed a petition in the Lahore High Court stating that federal government has increased power tariff several times that forced public to face severe load shedding and it creates negative impact on country’s economy. Similarly, prices of gas and petroleum prices were also increased.

The Court has issued notices to the government and concerned departments on January 21 to elaborate the matter.

Shazia Marri

The victim of a child marriage Shazia Marri was engaged at 11, married at 14 and divorced with a baby by the time she was 16. At an age when girls are just beginning to dream of a good life, hers was shattered. Sworn to the provincial assembly through PPP's reserved seat, Marri always wanted to prove her mettle.

A Dual Life – Brought up with Care:
She lived a dual life in my formative years: a village girl and a studious city girl who attended a regular English medium school in Karachi. Her education was quite liberal in the sense that she was aware of what was happening around her but was not ultramodern. She was very conservative and yet so advanced that she knew how to drive by the time she was 11.

Berani and Karachi, in tandem:
Born and educated in Karachi, Marri belongs to the Berani village in Sanghar district. She regularly visited her village throughout her childhood. Her family house was one amongst the many built within a huge compound. She cherishes many happy memories of playing in her grand aunt's house. Besides being a politician, her father was also an agriculturist. Her family’s basic livelihood depended on his regular visits to the village.

A Third Generation Politician:
Marri is the eldest amongst her siblings, and though she stepped into active politics just two and a half years ago, it was perhaps destined. A third generation politician, she is proud of her heritage. Her father was Atta Mohammed Marri, whose political career spanned 30 years. And much before that there was her grandfather, Ali Mohammed Marri, who was a member of the Sindh legislative assembly during the late 1930s.
Shazia Marri had never seen her grandfather. She only heard of him from people and from her own father who had lost both his parents within months of each other when he was a child. During her father's tenure in politics, her mother, Perveen Marri, also served as member of the provincial assembly between 1986 and 1987.

Shazia feels womens’ pain, her own life makes her do so:
A staunch supporter of women's issues, she wanted to get power for herself in order to empower other women. She, herself, has gone through many stages in her life, but now she smiles and then looks away. She was the best debater of her school, the captain of the school's throw ball, badminton and table tennis teams, but was not allowed to take her O-Level exams.
There was absolutely no compatibility between Marri and her husband who was a cousin and more than 10 years older. She felt trapped and suffocated. And throughout her suffering her father also felt her pain.
As a condition to the divorce she had to give up the custody of her child. She tries to come to terms with it by saying, "I, too, was very young with my whole life ahead of me, so maybe it was all for the best." Nevertheless, it was the end of her childhood.

The seven years that followed were spent in recovering from the ordeal. With love and support from her father she returned to her studies.

She married again, but this time the decision was entirely her own; which came as quite a surprise to her father. Anushe, her seven-year-old daughter, is the best thing that came out of this second union of further pain and heartbreak, something she was not prepared to experience again.

Her sole support, her father, too, became quite ill during this time. She would hide her sorrow from him but all he had to do was look at her face to know what was going on. Yet she fought on, never giving up on life, if for nothing else then her daughter. And she says has emerged stronger.

Anushe today is her greatest admirer, and wants to be a politician, a TV host; whatever her mother is. But then she is also a little girl who prefers watching cartoons than Shazia’s talk shows. Shazia tries to keep Anushe with her often so that she can see the realities of life. Shazia doesn't want a sheltered upbringing for Anushe.

Getting Sworn in to the Sindh Provincial Assembly, and beyond:
"Being a woman in politics is a big challenge. People only look at your face and not beyond that. They don't see what I have in me and what I am capable of. I never enjoyed seeing just my pictures printed in the newspapers and not what I had to say. It was quite frustrating. But I was a fighter, a survivor. I started working harder. With my father no longer around to guide me I had to experience everything myself. I am a perfectionist. I never settle for anything less than solid." Shazia says with pride.

Marri started researching government projects such as the Kalabagh Dam, the Greater Thal Canal and the Left Bank Out fall Drain. She wanted to learn what the realities were behind the slogans. She had to understand the issues and she studied all of them. Any issue which comes up, she researches thoroughly. She asks people and takes the experts' opinions. She studies the existing laws, the ordinances and the Constitution. She thinks there is so much to learn and so much to do that if we follow a path, then she thinks that politics is the best way to achieve something for people.

People approach her with their problems and Marri also keeps her eyes and ears open. Proud of her feminist views, she also works against domestic violence. "Seventy per cent of women here suffer from it and not just in the uneducated households," she says. "I have submitted resolutions on the Darul Aman. There are only four in the whole of Sindh and more are needed."

Passionate about all the causes she takes up, Marri must have made quite a few adversaries who dare not challenge her up front as she hardly loses a debate. Although she is educated, she strongly feels that being a graduate to compete in the elections is wrong.

"In a democracy you need representatives of the people. How do you find an educated person in an illiterate population? The leaders will then have to come from the elite who will keep themselves aloof from those they are to represent," she explains.

Her other achievements include a shadow cabinet where she serves as the spokesperson on finance, another major issue of concern for the province of Sindh.

One matter close to her heart is helping the elderly and the physically challenged. Recently, when her younger sister was filling out the forms for the CSS examination, she came across a strange clause stating that any kind of shortening of limbs disqualifies one from taking the exam. "My sister who walks with a slight limp was shocked and started crying. I explained to her that if she couldn't give the exam there were plenty of other options open for her. But I vowed to take up this issue for all the others out there who couldn't appear in this very important examination on the basis of their physical disability.

"I submitted a resolution in the assembly which was passed unanimously. Well, of course, initially it was opposed by the government benches but I was able to make them realize that this was an issue which had to be addressed, and as it was the demand of everybody they had to surrender to the demand. It was my first political achievement. After that I never looked back."

Then there was the issue of absence of ramps. "I have submitted a bill asking for an amendment in the Sindh Building Control Ordinance of 1979 which doesn't mention that buildings should have ramps or elevators for the disabled, physically challenged or senior citizens. The bill was challenged but I refuse to give up."

She has a list of issues which she rattles off in one breath, "There is the unemployment problem to tackle, the fishermen issue, the concern for the homeless children and their education, and the rackets created by the Rangers."

And with each victory that comes her way, each challenge which she takes on, she breaks a shackle within her.

A traveler, a learner:
Shazia has travelled to the following countries:
• India
• Malaysia
• Singapore
• Switzerland
• United Arab Emirates
• United Kingdom
• United States

She has attended a number of seminars in Malaysia, UK and USA; and has won laurels for herself and her country.

Hina Rabbani Khar

Hina Rabbani Khar was born on January 19, 1977 in Multan. Proud of her ancestral village and all that life gave her, Hina is a buoyantly zestful lady. A graduate of ‘University of Massachusetts - USA’, she has all that it takes to be a leader. A businesswoman by profession, she graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) from Lahore University of Management Sciences in 1999, and received her M.Sc. degree in Management from University of Massachusetts, U.S.A in 2001.

She has her roots in Village ‘Khar Gharbi’ located in Tehsil Kot Addu, and politically affiliated now with PPPP. She got elected as Member of National Assembly (MNA) in 2008 elections from NA-177, Muzaffargarh-II for the second time. Earlier, she won the elections in 2002 from the platform of PML-Q and was the Parliamentary Secretary for Economic Affairs and Statistics.

Hina Rabbani Khar remained Pakistan’s State Minister for Economic Affairs. The State Ministers report directly to the Prime Minister and hold specific portfolios. In Hina’s case, she was responsible for international (multilateral and bilateral) grants and loans. Her Ministry’s the official signatory for any project that is launched in Pakistan with foreign financial assistance. Her father, Ghulam Rabbani Khar, drove Hina into politics, setting her on a different path from the hotel management career she had been pursuing with great zeal. She is a co-owner of the Polo Lounge, an upscale, popular restaurant located on the Lahore Polo Grounds.

She feels that being in the Federal Government is as good as it can get. She has no issues, whatsoever, with being a woman. In fact, she feels that it is more positive than negative as one gets a lot more recognition and opportunities, and a lot of it has to do with how professional the person is. Her age did matter at times, because by any standard, she is quite very young to be in such a position. However her rich work experience and on-the-job training helped her and above all she took herself seriously; so did everyone else. She regards President Musharraf and Ex-Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz as leaders of great worth. To her both these leaders are highly educated and professional and they surely made a difference.

Elaborating on the policies of President Musharraf, she expressed her regard for President Musharraf as a visionary leader. She acknowledged the people of Pakistan as resilient and strong but detested few segments of our society: who adopt a western culture and regard it as something good. She feels that there has been a huge revolution in the last few years. She graduated in 1999 from LUMS and then left for USA. In these six years, she feels that there has been a paradigm shift. The society has moved towards modernization and westernization. Hina Khar feels that today it is hard to distinguish Pakistan's urban citizens from the Westerners. However, she opined that it can be done with sophistication, if at all it’s necessary. She cannot stand people who are not proud to be Pakistanis, whether they are here in Pakistan or settled abroad. She hates people changing their names to be ‘vilayati’ (foreign) and acquired accents and other things of the sort. She believes we have to understand and accept the culture we're living in and be proud of it to really stand out on our own. Emulating selective aspects of another culture doesn't really translate into true social progress.

She is a proud Pakistani and regards this very feeling as her most treasured asset. She really feels proud of whatever God has given her: her family, her village, her background, and everything. She feels that Pakistan has a great deal to offer. She loves trekking. She recollected her visit to Nanga Parbat and K2 (with the ‘LUMS Adventure Society’) with joyfulness; nostalgia gripped her and she appreciated the diversity of the landscape and the hospitality of people as enough to warm one’s heart towards this country. In Pakistan, people and places make you feel welcome. Freedom of expression is also a thing, unique to Pakistan. She said that even in the remotest areas, one can sit at a railway station to have tea with the porters and have a real conversation with them. Then, during the elections process, when she visited her constituents, she found them to be hospitable in spite of their limited means. A guy earning Rs.3000 a month will lay out a feast for his guests. It all speaks to the generous and warm nature of our culture, which is definitely something we should be proud of!

She considers herself extremely lucky. She is happy for the way her mind is constantly challenged in terms of working hours, the changes she can make, and the room for innovation is just tremendous. She has been able to make some changes that aren’t very popular, but in the long term they are great for Pakistan, e.g. in the telecommunications and banking sectors. However she feels that on the flip side, there are no guarantees in the political field, so she did not comment on how much control she has over making it a lifelong career. She regards working with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and President Musharraf as one of the biggest factors in her sense of pride for Pakistan.

Hina Rabbani Khar has travelled to USA, UK, Germany, Netherlands, U.A.E, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. She is single and enjoys riding, reading and travelling. She is also a member of the Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF) Pakistan.

She is articulate, brilliant, enterprising, and very far-sighted even at such a young age. Moreover, she is humble, approachable, professional, and knows her job very well. At the end of the day, if we have more people like her in our government, perhaps Pakistan’s positive image won’t need any marketing beyond simply introducing them to the world!

She is the first woman to present the budget speech in national assembly on 13 June, 2009

The Three Investigators and the secret of Terror Castle (2009) DVDRip XviD Direct Download Mediafire

Clowns are usually the last people you'd suspect of committing crimes, so Jupiter, Pete and Bob - The Three Investigators - hardly pay attention when a clown sneaks into Jupiter's birthday party and tries to make off with something. Though they don't catch the clown, they retrieve his booty: it's a tape of Jupiter's parents, who died several years earlier. The only thing that's clear in the garbled tape is that Jupiter's parents were also investigators, and on the trail of something
big... Jupiter vows to solve the mystery his parents were working on. The only clue they have is the name Stephen Terrill, a once-famous inventor who lived in what is now called "Terror Castle." The boys soon found out how aptly chosen the name is: doors open by themselves, gates slam shut as if by magic, things move, slide, crash, appear and disappear. Plus there seems to be a ghost! It would all be too much for the hardy trio if it weren't for the ethereally pretty Caroline, a little girl who claims she is a psychic and fells a particularly strong bond towards Bob. Unfortunately, Caroline is also the daughter of the local sheriff, who shoos them away from Terror Castle. It takes more than a narrow -eyed, ill-tempered sheriff to shake off the three
investigators, however, and soon the boys are back in the house, determined to find out what Jupiter's parents were looking for - something that is supposed to be hidden in the house. Fearlessly defying the mysterious machines that seem to make the house itself come alive, they penetrate to the secret heart of Terror Castle and come upon Stephen Terrill's invention: a diamond-making machine! But there's no time to admire the stones, for the ghost of Stephen Terrill appears - and he doesn't like intruders...

Phantom Racer (2009) DvdRip Xvid Direct Download Mediafire

Two rival race car drivers crash. One of them burns to death, but the other survives. Cut to several years later. The one guy is now a trucker, and the other is still dead. His red #66 (an obvious reference) car has now been restored, freeing the sinister apparition to roam the highways, looking for victims to mow down.

It's a familiar theme, cars possessed by an entity with an attitude. "The Car," "Maximun Overdrive," "Christine," and others were run by demons, or ghosts, or aliens, or they were living beings themselves. The evil presence's identity is too obvious, and so can't be developed much. The script then is just limited to endless car chases and failed attempts to destroy the thing. There's a subplot about a teen finding out who her dad is. They must be related; both of their acting skills are equally limited. Or maybe the director is to blame for this: there's one scene where they've just escaped a car attack and witnessed two people die horribly, so how do they react? They're cruising down the road, kidding with each other.

What would a movie like this be without clichés? 1) The evil car has many chances to finish off its main target victims, but doesn't do it. 2) The good guy's truck breaks down at the worst possible moment. 3) The sheriff is a dumb hick who insults people. 4) The teen dimwittedly wanders into trouble with the monster. And so on.

However, the film never really attempts to be anything noteworthy, and just goes for some goofy horror chills. On that level, oddly enough, it actually works. An OK movie to laugh at if you have nothing else to do.

included the sample.
