Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPs ready to sit in Opposition
In a joint statement issued from MQM’s Headquarter Nine Zero on Saturday, the MQM’s Parliamentarians, drawing the Rabita Committee’s attention toward current spree of target killing, said that an important figure of the federalgovernment was repeatedly informed about the irresponsible attitude of the Sindh government. However, it is regretted the federal government failed to take any concrete step in this regard.
According to the statement, everybody in aware that PPP is in power both in federal as well as provincial governments.
“The terrorists of Lyari gang war and other criminal groups have continued to kidnap and kill the innocent activist of the MQM. While some elements of the provincialgovernment are patrioinsing these elements,” it said.
On Jan 8, the Lyari-based terrorist killed five MQM’s workers after kidnapping them. While a day earlier, these criminals kidnapped another activist of the MQM’s Lyari Sector, Sector Unit-2 and subjected him to brutal torture before beheading him.
The MQM’s parliamentarians have demanded of the Rabita Committee that they should reconsider its decision and sit in the opposition benches
Scanners are the tip of the iceberg as fear will promote stringent measures at port and soil worries Muslim Community
Barrister Amjad Malik
Human rights organisation have expressed their deep concerns at the
effectiveness of full-body scanners in detecting the explosive used in
the Christmas day attack and warned that despite causing further
delays, there are also privacy & religious concerns over the
devices, which produce “naked” images that are tantamount to a strip
search, and fear that it will be used more against Muslim and minority
communities.
This
is tip of the iceberg and more tight regulations will follow if fears
are not addressed on security front by enhancing pre arrest joint
collaboration of community of nations, and despite British Premier
earlier conceded that the scanners trialed at Manchester airport, are
not foolproof, and divided opinion in Europe where France and Germany
are opposing such tight measures, we fear more tighter regimes at
airport and on soil in coming months where Muslim community is already
on firing line bearing the brunt post 9/11. USA has already announced
such measures and selective countries residents are in the line of
suspicion. We feel
that Home Secretary is entrusted with the job of the safety of public,
but he must not ignore Muslim community’s anxiety which is suffering
due to neglect and heavy handedness already as they have in built fear
that all measures are targeted at them.
Society
including Muslims condemn any terrorist criminal activity and demand
that a crime does not give carte blanch to ask all Muslim to queue up
at airport, go through strip searches and remain in dock of suspicion
for doing nothing. Trail(s) of terrorism related legislation and
finally Government’s untimely discussion over ‘Hijab’, bearded Muslims
and forced marriages deprived the opportunity to strengthen the links
between ancient civilisation(s) and put emphasis on tolerance and
curbing militancy jointly on back foot. Stop and search, and terrorism
legislation have all been targeted against Muslim community and looking
at statistics in last 10 years of convictions and the number of people
who have been arrested, harassed, and either released and or were
declared not guilty by courts are mostly Muslims. Failures in
‘Operation Pathway’ of 10 April are an eye opener where 10 Pakistani
students were arrested on terror suspicion and tried in media and
Pakistan as a state was scolded but all were later released without
charge on 21 April 09, but deportation proceedings were ensured other
than accepting mistakes. Courts are the only safeguard for the Muslim community.
Trust
and joint efforts could fail the threat and war mongerers who wishes to
feed the frenzy by asking the executive to use fear to introduce more
stringent measures which will cause to alienate the Muslim youth. This
terrorism related overall strategy has portrayed Muslims as a ‘victim’
in a suspicion dock in the Great Britain and executive and community both
have lost the drive of self accountability as it was impossible to
fight on two fronts, at Govt and home front. Radicalisation is at
increase and Young Muslims aged 16-24 are the prime targets of the
radical groups who used annoyance, attitude and their loneliness as an
excuse to incite them towards ‘revenge.’ What are the causes of youth
falling prey to such outfits is multiple in number and dimensions and
British Government’s neglect, heavy handedness and isolated approach is
integral part of this youth loneliness. The work of youth
organisations, net work of mosques and activities of Muslims in general
are peaceful and law abiding and they need assurance that they will not
be targeted unreasonably and partnership of community must be sought to
fight this war on terror, curb extremism and address security concerns
jointly in a hand in glove approach as enemy is common and is against
the whole humanity.

Security was of top priority for the Pakistan Boxing Federation, the police and Rangers. The fact that the PBF has succeeded in holding the eight-day championships in which boxers and technical staff from 25 countries across the world including Europe, Africa, Far East, Middle East and Pak Indo sub continent took part. The Pakistan Boxing Federation has succeeded in proving that Pakistan has the ability to organise a secure and successful international sporting event. The young president of the PBF Dodha Khan Bhutto, who only a year ago took over the administrative reins of the federation, proved that one could accomplish a good task with hard work and enthusiasm. He had sat an example for the other national sports federation and it is expected that they too could also host an international event on smaller scale. |

Egypt bars George Galloway from country
CAIRO: Egyptian security escorted MP George Galloway to take a flight out of the country on Friday and he was barred from returning after violent protests over an aid convoy he led into Gaza, local news agency said. The Foreign Ministry declared the left-wing politician an "unwelcome individual," the agency said. An Egyptian security source said Egypt reached a deal with members of the aid convoy to take supplies to Palestinians in Gaza after protests overnight. Egyptian security forces and members of the convoy had thrown stones at each other when tempers frayed over the route the trucks were to take. Cairo had insisted the food and other supplies should enter Gaza via an Israeli-controlled checkpoint but convoy leaders wanted to use the Egyptian-controlled Rafah border crossing. Galloway, who had re-entered Egypt to ask about the fate of seven detained convoy members, was immediately asked to leave the country, security sources said. Galloway was escorted by Egyptian security personnel as he went to Cairo airport heading for London, agency said. Police said later the seven detained convoy members had been freed and placed on a "watch list." No member of Galloway's convoy was immediately available for comment. |

Candle exchange may not bring peace between India and Pakistan
UN resolution, No 47 (1948) adopted by the Security Council at its 286th meeting held on 21st April 1948, is unequivocal in giving a way forward, “Noting with satisfaction that bothIndia and Pakistan desire that question of the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan should be decided through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite”, But in last 61 years India and Pakistan are circling around the question, but to accept that this remains an issue between them and sit together and resolve it.
Peace is good thing, but unless peace initiative and lawful drive is aimed with clear objective and supported by two countries governments and state machinery along with its intelligentsia and civil society , I am afraid the results will be negative and half hearted effort may even be dangerous as people have been disappointed many times and has been let down on each occasion by the ‘mind set’ which never accepted Pakistan’s existence to start with, and halted any efforts ofpeace responded by violence and intrigues.
If anyone has any doubt, they must read latest stir caused by Deepak Kapur, the Indian Chief of Armed Forces who is willing to fight at two fronts with China andIndia simultaneously, and the views of Editor of Indian Defence Review, Mr. Bharat Verma who recently wrote in his journal that ‘new Delhi is its own enemy, when it permitted the creation of a pure Islamic state on its borders,” and Mr Verma further wrote in his thesis that, “many conveniently propose the myth that a stable Pakistan is inIndia ’s favour. This is a false proposition. The truth is that Pakistan is a bad news for the Indian union since 1947-stable or otherwise. ” I disagree with the Indian author as Pakistan emerged as a result of a successful struggle for independence by millions of Muslims ofIndia who felt that two nation theory is the only viable option to preserve and protect each other’s identity and core values. Indian Hindus too got liberated after remaining under Moghuls for over 6 centuries and then British Raj through the same process due to Gandhi’s vision. Independence was neither granted through diplomacy, nor as a charity. It was snatched on the basis of fundamentals of the modern day democracy, one man one vote’ principle and majority of Muslim populated areas vowed to join the newly established idea of ‘Pakistan’ where they saw security, identity and a peaceful enjoyment of civil and political rights, and a freedom of religion, culture and values.
Seeing both the declaration of 21st February 1999 at Lahore and 5th January 2004 at Islamabad between both countries, there seems to be a desire for resuming adialogue and a need to promote confidence building measures and then onwards peaceful resolution of Kashmir. But disruption seems to be an end on each occasion. I guess If ‘Kargil’ debacle had not derailed the ongoingdialogue, we could have progressed a little more with India with a new relationship and determination to resolve the inherent issues. What happened in ‘Kargil’ is still unknown and no commission was set up to investigate the reasons behind which halted the civildialogue . Though in Britain on one scientist ‘Dr David Kelly’s death, then Prime Minister Blair knowingly that he may loose his premiership, initiated a ‘Judicial enquiry’ headed by Lord Hutton. I guess that’s the difference between two democracies an open, fair and impartial one and a ‘controlled’ one, andIndia and Pakistan must move forward on a route to a greater dialogue to save its nations from plunging into poverty, weaker civil system(s) where army has an edge due to ongoing conflict for last 62 years.
As long as this issue remains unresolved, the security situation between both will never normalise and ‘mind set’ will win and As long asIndia keeps dreaming the disintegration of Pakistan, it will survive as a viable state as the very negativity serves the purpose of knitting this crowd of 170 millionpeople into a nation, whenever it is confronted by its arch rival. Two main parties, (Muslim League & PPP), Pakistan Army, and robust civil society are the protectors of the ‘two nation theory’ and the soul of Pakistan, which can never be tarnished unless the spirit of acquiring a nationhood status is alive.
Wishing for Peace is not a weakness but is a symbol of tolerance, but begging peace is not a viable option. On one side we have a war threat, and 10,000 cusec feet water blockage at Chenab, (a real situation) and on the other we are advised to hold candles for wishful visiting armies, (an idealistic approach) which will not go well with thepeople of Pakistan unless CBM’s of a concrete dialogue are evident paving way for the solution of Kashmir with an acceptance of each other as neighbours not perpetual enemies.
