ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani Friday suspended the Interior Secretary Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry following Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar’s barring from leaving for China.
The Prime Minister’s move came following yesterday’s episode in which the Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar was prevented from boarding the plane en route to China by the FIA officials. The Minister was told that his name was on Exit Control List (ECL).
The Defence Minister was scheduled to visit China along with Chinese ambassador for signing an agreement for purchase of frigates for Pak Navy.
Taking notice of the incident, the Prime Minister, also suspended Additional Director Immigration FIA besides 2 FIA inspectors.
The Premier issued a show cause notice to Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry, directing him to explain his position within the next seven days.
The Prime Minister also ordered an inquiry into the yesterday’s incident.
