Creation Hollywood Movie Review :
Creation was a great idea for a movie, but failed at delivering it.
Both the story of Charles Darwin and his theory are interesting and add something to the other. It isn't a battle against religion, but there's a side-effect to science that pushes you away from God. Both Darwin's theory and life reflect this. However, the problem with this movie is that it's not equally divided and all-together too long.



Part of the movie has interesting scenes that show his theory in relation to life. The bigger part of the movie is trying to be sentimental aboutCharles Darwin losing a daughter. This would be fine if it weren't for the biggest part of the movie and if it weren't done in such an easy uninteresting way. I've been more engaged by a lot of cliché movies than by this. I can deal with the use of flashbacks, but bringing the hallucination of a daughter in to ease the narrative and form a repetitive reminder of how sad things are, that's too much for me.

If you're going to tell a boring story about a father who has lost a daughter, you don't need Charles Darwin to do that. It's a pity because there was a lot of potential.

The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond Hollywood Movie Review :
Being a big fan of Bryce Dallas Howard and an avid admirer of all things Tennessee Williams I was adamant to see this, a film produced from a forgotten screenplay of his. This is classic kind of story of his, focusing on the Fisher Willow - a privileged girl returning from her studies abroad and disgraced in Memphis society for her father's ruthless actions. She's a complex girl yearning to break free, brilliantly blasé over the airs and graces of her débutante peers, she's lost her reputation but not her sparkling wit - andBryce Dallas Howard flawlessly tackles the accent and sass of a southern Belle. With no eligible bachelor willing to take her to social events she enlists the help of a farm boy grandson of a mayor Jimmy (played passably byChris Evans ) to escort her to these "agonising parties". She also makes moves on him through her own sad manners of seduction but to no avail, he is too distanced by societal divisions and his own sense of inadequacy.

The story eventually slows down and focuses on a grand Halloween party during which the titular incident takes place and the drama unfolds. This is a very handsome film - fluid camera-work, gorgeous production design, lovely Southern scenery - it's a story on a small-scale but wonderfully theatrical execution with excellent support from Mamie Gummer and Ellen Bursty. Amidst the chaos of the party there are a few dramatic arias that are quite old fashioned but effective and segue into only more revelations, yet throughout Howard maintains enough exuberance, conviction and restraint to hold onto the audience's affection and so that we feel her internal struggle. She is just a delight

Crazy Heart Hollywood movie Review :
In his directorial debut, Scott Cooper adapts Thomas Cobb's Crazy Heart, the story of Bad Blake, a washed-up country star with an alcohol addiction. The film stars Jeff Bridges, in the lead role, and Maggie Gyllenhaal as Jean, a young reporter is taken in by Blake's heartache and pain.

Cooper's direction is of subtle greatness. The film is quiet, slow-paced, but works. It's never meant to be loud or over-the-top, which some may be expecting; it's a beautiful written song about life thrust into a two-hour sympathy riot. Bridges, who will surely receive Oscar attention, is reserved, charismatic, and raw.

Bridges' 58-year-old Blake is one of the better performances of the year. There are obvious comparisons to Robert Duvall's performance Tender Mercies, with critics believing a possibly similarity to Mickey Rourke's work in The Wrestler, which is certainly not the case, this is unique in its own way. Bridges doesn't overcook the role which would have been easy, he's effortless and sings quite well.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, Oscar snubbed for her works in Sherrybaby and World Trade Center, is nearly average in her work. She's coy with Jean and underplays her, but unlike Bad Blake, her role doesn't call for it. Jean is a bruised, kindhearted, and devoted mother to her four-year old son Buddy (Jack Nation, as cute as can be), but uneven in narrative forming.

Robert Duvall is brief, and nearly ineffectual. As the bar owner Wayne, he offers a humanity for Blake outside of woman, which is needed in the film, but in the end is unmemorable. Also sharing this boat is the talented ColinFarrell, who's both likable and adequate, but upstaged by scenes with Bridges.

The only thing more beautiful than Bridges' performance is the song "The Weary Kind," which is submission for Best Original Song for the Academy Awards. This is one of the best songs written for a film in the last ten years. Delightful lyrics and exquisitely executed, the song one of the rare occasions of the perfect song for a perfect film, given the film's nature.

While Crazy Heart doesn't offer anything insightful to the realm of cinema, it's simple, uncomplicated, and honest, which you can't appreciate. For a first time out, Cooper does an admirable job.

Supreme Court to resume hearing NRO cases today

The 17-member bench of the SC will commence hearing the NRO cases again from today (Dec 14, 2009) after a three-day long break.

The larger bench headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry will be hearing the petitions submitted by the lawyers of Dr. Mubashir Hassan, Roidad Khan, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Tariq Asad and Fazal Asad.

A. K. Dogar, Feroz Shah Gilani’s lawyer will give present their arguments.

Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, Dr. Mubashir Hassan’s lawyer will present his old stance on the new petition on behalf of the centre.

The request for the restoration of the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s discarded petitions will also be considered amid today’s proceedings.

Akram Chaudhry, Roidad Khan’s lawyer said the centre’s current stance on the activities of court, in regard to NRO petitions, is contempt of court. Its answer will be filed in the court today.

Advocate Akram Chaudhry, in an interview with television media stated the government’s stance is baseless, and that it should be discarded with a fine.

“The centre has committed contempt of court by submitting the results beforehand,” said Chaudhry adding further, “Its written reply has been prepared and will be presentedin the court today.”

Indian Navy test fires Dhanush missile

CHANDIPUR: ‘Dhanush’, the naval version of India’s indigenously developed surface-to-surface Prithvi missile system was test fired from a naval ship about 40 nautical miles from here inside the Bay of Bengal today.

A naval team and the scientists of the DRDO jointly conducted the mission, claimed an official from the Department of Defence.

The missile was flight tested from a naval ship in the Bay of Bengal at about 11:30 A.M, according to Defence sources.

Dhanush missile is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads. It is a single stage missile with liquid propellant and can hit both sea as well as shore based targets of 350 km range with 500kg payload.

The missile in its initial test of development stage on April 11, 2000 had failed due to some technical snags developed during the blast-off phase. But, in it’s range and pay load capabilities the missile was a success.

The last trial of Dhanush missile was successfully conducted on March 30,2007 from a naval ship off Orissa coast.

CIA terminates contract with Blackwater: report

WASHINGTON: The US Central Intelligence Agency has cancelled a contract with a security company formerly known as Blackwater Worldwide that allowed the company to load bombs on CIA drones in Pakistan and Afghanistan, The New York Times reported late Friday.

Citing intelligence officials, the newspaper said the contract gave Blackwater employees an operational role in one of the CIA’s most significant covert programs, which has killed dozens of militants with Predator and Reaper drones.

The contract with the company, now called Xe Services, was canceled this year by CIA Director Leon Panetta, the report said.

CIA spokesman George Little said Panetta had ordered that the agency’s employees take over the jobs from Xe employees at the remote drone bases inPakistan and Afghanistan, the paper noted.

Panetta had also ordered a review of all contracts with the company, according to the report.
